The Spring Festival—春节
New Year is coming so the theme of this week that we discussed with the children is the "Spring Festival" which has big significance for us. The Spring Festival is a Chinese cultural tradition on the lunar New Year and has a history of more than 4000 years. During the Spring Festival, China's ethnic Han and other ethnic minorities will hold various celebrations, this is why many people on this day will return to their hometown and have a family reunion, to express, look forward to the future and wish for happiness for the next year.
During the circle time, we introduced the origin of the Spring Festival to the children with some characteristics of the specific customs and environment layout of the Spring Festival. We asked the children, what they thought about it and how to decorate the classroom around this special day. Some said we should hang red lanterns, others said there should be some grilles, it seems the children are quite aware of what happens during the Chinese New Year. Finally, we set the lantern and the work of the paper-cut to let the children have the opportunity to personally decorate a Montessori classroom full of the awaken of spring.
