Lou Gehrig: Farewell to Baseball AddressFans, for the past two weeks you have been reading about the bad break I got.

Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.I have been in ballparks for seventeen years and have never received anything but kindness and encouragement from you fans.

  Look at these grand men.

Which of you wouldn’t consider it the highlight of his career just to associate with them for even one day?Sure I’m lucky.Who wouldn’t consider it an honor to have known Jacob Ruppert? Also, the builder of baseball’s greatest empire, Ed Barrow? To have spent six years with that wonderful little fellow, Miller Huggins? Then to have spent the next nine years with that outstanding leader, that smart student of psychology, the best manager in baseball today, Joe McCarthy?Sure I’m lucky. When the New York Giants, a team you would give your right arm to beat, and vice versa, sends you a gift - that’s something.

When everybody down to the groundskeepers and those boys in white coats remember you with trophies that’s something.

When you have a wonderful mother-in-law who takes sides with you in squabbles with her own daughter that’s something. When you have a father and a mother who work all their lives so you can have an education and build your body it’s a blessing. When you have a wife who has been a tower of strength and shown more courage than you dreamed existed that’s the finest I know. So, I close in saying that I might have been given a bad break, but Ive got an awful lot to live for.

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen:

Thank you for coming to this election campaign today.

With the trust and complete support of my team, I am delighted to announce that I am running for chairman of the Student Union.

As a diligent man with pleasant personality, I have been always considered to be a good team member.

Meanwhile, as a big fan of sports I fully realize the importance of teamwork and advocate the spirit of being quicker and stronger.

I possess strong determination to take firm steps toward achieving the objectives of my team.

In addition, my working experience with the Student Union in the past two years will be extremely helpful to my future work here if I get elected.

A sign of a really strong organization is that it can change its leadership without hindering its progress and without damaging its values.

If I am elected, I believe I have the capability to lead the Union to advance in the right direction.

I will cooperate well with my fellow members of the Union and take innovative measures, including establishing a student-information center, forming a teacher-student-friendship association, to make the Union a true assistance to students study and life here as well as a bridge of communication between teachers and students.

  Thank you very much.

People’s opinions are always different once they talk about campus love. Some people hold the idea that campus love is a bitter fruit which may cause pains and make people hurt. Besides, people who are against campus love maintain that campus love is just a kind of thing that wastes time and money. While others declare nothing is more wonderful than love. The later seem to be idealists who love for love’s sake!

As far as I’m concerned, I do not quite agree with the two kinds of opinions mentioned above. For one thing, since we are college students now, we should learn to take total responsibility and it is time for us to experience various kinds of "growing pains", including love. So maybe we’d better be braver to pursue it in spite of the sorrows that might happen to us.

However, I do not mean that study can be neglected compared with love. For, as college students our main task was, is and will be study. Being adults does not mean being totally independent. A man’s first duty is to find a way of supporting himself, thereby relieving other people of the necessity of supporting him. Therefore, we have to master the skills to make a living in future. Those who abandon their study in sake of love are rather idlers than idealists!

All in all, campus love has double edges. It is true that it may cost you something to seek it, but if you can arrange your time well, it will add color to your life and tell you how to give rather than receive without influencing your study. Just follow the star in your heart! Why not have a try?

Good morning, my dear teachers and friends! My name is Li Bingke, from class four O five. Today, I am very happy to be here. My topic is “Our School”.

My dear friends, welcome to our school! My school is very beautiful! It has a big playground. We can play and do some sports there. Near the playground, there is a garden. Many trees and flowers are there. So the air is very clean and we can hear birds singing in the trees. It is so wonderful. Our teaching buildings are around the garden and look like our teachers’ arms to welcome us.

We can draw pictures in the art room on the first floor and read story-books in the library on the second floor. My classroom is on the third floor. It is clean and bright. We like to study in it. The computer room is on the fifth floor. We can sing and dance in the music room on the sixth floor. What a lot of fun! We can have lunch in the canteen near Defang Teaching Building.

In our school, our teachers work hard and help us with our lessons. We study hard and listen to teachers carefully. After class, our teachers play with us and we feel very happy.

Our school is so nice and our teachers are so kind. We all love them. Dear friends, do you like them?

  That's all. Thanks!

My last holidays were my longest holidays, and i think that i learnt how to spend the time. I enjoyed a lot with my friends, and my family, and i met new people too, because i was in different places during the summer, and i wanted to meet people everywhere. The first place i visited was calpe, a town in alicante, because i was invited for some days by a friend who has a house there. I went with some friends, and we spent there just five days, but it was enough time to want to come back next summer! We stayed on the beach for hours, in the mornings, just lying and asleep, taking enough energy for the rest of the day and for the night! At night, we went out until next morning. We danced, met people, walked near the beach... while we watched the moon in silence. Next, i went to paris with my parents and my sister. Actually, i did not go to paris, i went to disneyland. We stayed there for four days, and it was really unforgettable. When i saw the park, i opened my eyes the most i could and i did not close them until the night at the hotel. I felt like a little girl again. Finally, i was in salou. My parents looked for a really relaxing time, and we were on the beach for some days. There, we did not visit anything, we were there just to rest. After those days, we came , and, unfortunately, we had to start our routines again.

  Good morning, everybody!

In this world, there is one thing that is very fair to everybody, whether you are a male or female, young or old, rich or poor. Does anybody know what it is called?

Right. It is time. The topic I am going to present to you today is called “ Treasure Every Minute”.

The clock is running. Make the most of today.

To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade.

To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby.

To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.

To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.

To realize the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who missed the train.

To realize the value of ONE SECOND, ask a person who just avoided an accident.

To realize the value of ONE MILLISECOND, ask the person who won a silver medal in the Olympics.

Treasure every moment that you have! And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with.

And remember that time waits for no one. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it's called the present!! The clock is running. Make the most of today.

  Good luck, everybody!

when i was seven, i started learning english. i played games and sang english songs with other children. sometimes, i watched english cartoons. it's funny. then i discovered the beauty of the language, and began my colorful dream in the english world. i hope i can travel around the world someday. i want to go to america to visit washington, because my cousin is over there. of course, i want to go to london too, because england is where english language developed. if i can ride my bike in cambridge university, i will be very happy. i hope i can speak english with everyone in the world. also i'll introduce china to them, such as the great wall, and the gardens in suzhou. i will teaching people of the world about the beautiful language of our country. i like the english language. to learn english is wonderful. i once wanted to be an english teacher . i also like chinese literature. when i was really young, i was able to remember lots of poems. i also wanted to be a teacher of chinese. now i think that both of my dreams can come true: i will be able to use english to teach foreign friends chinese and share chinese culture with them. so that more and more people will be able to get to know the 5000 years' history culture, and the prosperity of our great china. my future is not a dream.

It is a great honor and prestige to be asked to make a speech here tonight. I have chosen a rather serious, unpleasant subject for tonight's speech: it is the problem of trade friction between China and the United States.

It seems that criticism is directed mainly toward China for its large trade surplus vis-a-vis the United States. As of the summer of 1997, the annual surplus amounted to some US $ 50 billion. The reason for that is that automobiles and electronic products of China are outselling the American equivalents. Criticism also goes to the closed market of China. Americans demand that China open its market for American agricultural products such as crops, fruit, and food-meat, and that the complex Chinese distribution system be simplified.

However, I think the basic posture the Americans are taking needs to be changed. That is, Americans tend to assume that the Chinese are all to blame, and they also demand quick changes from the Chinese. I think what we really need is a little more patience and effort to understand each other. Mutual understanding is indispensable today when international interdependence is the rule.

I hope my speech will serve as "food for thought" and that you will be able to "digest" it well. Thank you.

since the quality of honesty applies to all behaviors, one cannot refuse to consider factual information, for example, in an unbiased manner and still claim that one's knowledge, belief or position is an attempt to be truthful. such a belief is clearly a product of one's desires and simply has nothing to do with the human ability to know. basing one's positions on what one wants — rather than unbiased evidence gathering — is dishonest even when good intentions can be cited — after all even hitler could cite good intentions and intended glory for a select group of people. clearly then, an unbiased approach to the truth is a requirement of honesty.

because intentions are closely related to fairness and certainly affect the degree of honesty/dishonesty, there is a wide spread confusion about honesty--and a general belief that being dishonest means that one always correctly understands if their behavior is either honest or dishonest. self-perception of our morality is non-static and volatile. it's often at the moment we refuse to consider other perspectives that there is a clear indication we are not pursuing the truth, rather than simply and exclusively at the moment we can muster up evidence that we are right. socrates had much to say about truth, honesty and morality, and explained that if people really understood that their behavior was wrong — then they simply wouldn't do it — by definition. unfortunately, honesty in the western tradition has been marginalized to specific instances — perhaps because a thorough understanding of honesty collides with ideologies of all types. ideologies and ideali often exaggerate and suppress evidence in order to support their perspectives — at the expense of the truth. this process erodes the practice and understanding of honesty. to an ideologist the truth quite often becomes insignificant, what matters most are their ideals and what ever supports their desires to enjoy and spread those ideals.

human beings are inherently biased about what they believe to be good due to individual tastes & backgrounds, but once one understands that a decidedly biased approach to what is true — is inherently dishonest, one can also understand how ideali and ideology have poorly served the quest for an honest, moral society. both honesty and morality require that we base our opinions about what is good — upon unbiased ideas of what is true — rather than vice versa (determining what is true based on what we feel is good) — the way all ideologies would have us believe.
